YouTube Can Remember

In some ways, the internet has become a secret suprise scrapbook for me. Remember the rock band that amazed you for a few brief moments and then disappeared? You think of a lyric or something unique about them and a few keystrokes in a search box brings to your screen a clip of them 30 years ago on The Midnight Special. A familiar picture a thousand times clearer than the faded copy in your head. Then something about the bass player’s costume makes you think of the knobs on your grandpa’s RCA console TV. Wow, it’s a mini time machine. Now, if I could only recover footage related to the remaining 99.9999% of my childhood—except for that time that I…and the time that I…uh, never mind. Just go look. Try “Disco Duck.” Or not.
