Wendy Carlos

20 01 2008

I’m not sure what made me purchase “Switched-On Bach 2000” back in the 90s, but I was at grad school and probably looking for study music. I suppose it was the lure of classical music and synthesizers in equal measures. I must tell you that I’ve never read more interesting liner notes. Wendy Carlos (closely related to Walter Carlos, I’ve much more recently discovered!) is nothing but fascinating. She’s a genius both in music and electronics and writes at length about the tunings and voices and computer equipment and so on and so on. If you’ve never heard of her and have any interest in classical music or synthesizers, you owe it to yourself to at least sample “Switched-On Bach” on Amazon.
